Exodus 15:2 - "The Lord is my strength and my defense, he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt Him"
It is an encouraging statement of how we can rely on God's strength, which is so much greater than our own.
It is a reminder that God is our salvation from ALL our problems... big and small.
But looking closely, this verse is framed with the rightful context for our lives that can be easy to forget.
Specifically, following the phrase "He is my God,", Moses makes a couple of key points.
First, he reminds us that this is his "father's God." Is that important? Maybe not... but for me it is humbling to remember that the God to whom I pray for help with work this week is the same God to whom the Israelites prayed for freedom from Egyptian slavery - a story that seems so much bigger than my upcoming week.
Second, Moses states that because "He is my God, I will praise Him... and I will exalt Him."
As believers, we find ultimate meaning in life in worshiping our creator.
We find ultimate and appropriate humility in placing ourselves in rightful position in service to our God and our God alone.
In the midst of unceasing demands that fill our own agendas, this can be a powerful memory verse to re-center us, not just on the strength and salvation we receive from God, but also our humble service and worship for God in all we do.
